John the Baptist was baptizing and teaching near the Jordan River. Large crowds followed and he instructed them to produce fruit in keeping with repentance.
Then some from the crowd asked "What should we do then?"
John answered "The man with two tunics should share with him who has none, and the one who has food should do the same."

Jesus also taught us to give to the needy and not to store up treasure on earth but to store it in heaven where moth and rust do not destroy.
